Memphis Close To Hiring Jim McElwain, Alabama’s OC, According To Report
Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain is close to being hired as the new Memphis Tigers head coach, according to a report.
I can confirm Alabama OC Jim McElwain is closing in on terms of a deal w/ Memphis to become the school’s next football coach.
To be clear, the deal between Memphis and McElwain is not done. They are working on terms of a deal.McElwain’s Memphis interview killed & he’s made it known he wants the job. Fresno not in play. A “terms sheet” being drawn up.
McElwain has been an offensive coach in the NCAA since 2007, when he was hired to be Fresno State's offensive coordinator. McElwain called the NCAA's 38th ranked offense that season, averaging nearly 420 yards of offense per game. In 2008, McElwain was hired by Alabama head coach Nick Saban to be the Crimson Tide's offensive coordinator, where he has helped lead Alabama to a National Title in 2010 behind a ball-control style of offense led by Heisman winning running back Mark Ingram.
