TCU’s Justin Fuente Will Be Memphis Football Coach, Gary Patterson Confirms
Patterson:
Fuente played quarterback at Oklahoma and Murray State (Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year, y’all) before coaching on the offensive side at Illinois State and then TCU. He has 11 years of coaching experience, but this is his first head gig. And what a challenge it is: Memphis has won five games in the past three years.

Steelers Coach Randy Fichtner Wants Memphis Coaching Job, According To Report

Getty ImagesFichtner has spent the past five seasons as an assistant coach for the Steelers, which includes two Super Bowl appearances. After three seasons as the team’s wide receivers coach, he was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2010, working with Ben Roethlisberger.
Fichtner was previously the quarterbacks coach at Memphis between 1990 and 1993 and offensive coordinator for Tommy West between 2001 and 2006.

Speaking of Johnson, Memphis’ NBC affiliate is reporting he’ll announce his retirement at a Monday press conference. He’s been the school’s AD since 1995, when he came over from Temple, and has a contract good through 2013. A noon press conference is referenced in the program’s release on Porter, along with the note that President Dr. Shirley Raines, though no specifics regarding Johnson’s employment are mentioned.
