The Cleveland Browns this week made several transactions including the release of defensive tackle Shaun Rogers. Because of the current labor situation, we won't be seeing free agency on March 4 so Rogers is one of only a handful of names available on the open market right now (which means he will may receive more attention than usual).
Shaun Rogers May Visit Redskins After Release From Browns
Rogers, who played nose tackle and defensive end in Cleveland, has already heard from the Washington Redskins, and could be setting up a visit with them, according to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com.
The 31-year old defensive tackle had a Pro Bowl year in 2008 so there's some hope that he has something left in the tank, though carrying around 340 pounds probably doesn't mesh well with players in their 30s. Signing Rogers may have an impact on defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who many don't expect to return to Washington.
As an unrestricted free agent, Rogers is eligible to sign with anyone until March 4, the expiration of the CBA. On that date, there will be no more player movement. Because of the uncertainty that lies ahead, some teams have shied away from doing any new contracts. It remains to be seen if the Redskins will operate that way.
