One of the best games of the college basketball season so far was BYU’s win over San Diego State in Provo; today, the two top-10 teams hook up again in San Diego, with even more on the line.
No. 6 San Diego State Vs. No. 7 BYU: Jimmer Fredette Heads To San Diego For Mountain West Rematch
Jimmer Fredette leads the Cougars against the Aztecs and Kawhi Leonard, and the two teams will battle for Mountain West supremacy and a shot at a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Of the two schools, it’s likely that San Diego State has the better chance at a top seed: the Aztecs have one loss, at BYU, and that was with Leonard suffering from flu-like symptoms. If they can top the Cougars and secure the top seed in the Mountain West Conference tournament, San Diego State should have the inside track to finishing its regular season with one loss, and would be a very strong candidate for a No. 1 seed.
BYU would be a similarly strong candidate with wins today and in the Mountain West tournament, but the Fightin’ Fredettes have been slightly less impressive to this point. And if the Aztecs want to win today, they’ll likely need to shut down Fredette, who poured in 43 points against them earlier this season.
