The northward ascent continues for the Calgary Flames. They were 14th in the conference on New Year's Day, and now with their win over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday night, they sit just three points out of fourth place in the West.
Blues Vs. Flames: David Moss Scores Lone Goal As Calgary Wins Again
It's really absolutely incredible. Brad Bishop tried to stop them in this one, making 19 saves on 20 shots, but after David Moss picked up a loose puck following a sloppy turnover by Tyler Strachan, he lifted a shot over Bishop. That was all the Flames needed for yet another win.
Meanwhile, after the game, St. Louis shipped Brad Boyes to Buffalo. That says all you need to know.
Elsewhere in the NHL...
Predators 3, Blue Jackets 2: Columbus lost their 16th straight game in Nashville, and basically, they can blame NHL replay.
Devils 2, Panthers 1: Well, nobody said they’d go down without a fight. Back-to-back losses may have killed New Jersey’s slim playoff hopes, but they didn’t have to worry about that on Sunday as they topped the Panthers to move within nine points of the final playoff spot.
Blackhawks 4, Coyotes 3: It basically is the playoffs already for those in Chicago, but despite an impressive run of late that’s seen the Blackhawks earn points in eight of nine games, the results in the standings don’t seem to be coming. Still on the outside looking in, the Blackhawks sit in ninth place, just two points away from fifth place Los Angeles.
Bruins 3, Oilers 2: Taylor Hall was 8-years-old the last time his Oilers beat the Bruins. Tyler Seguin was eight, too.
Ducks 3, Avalanche 2: Dan Ellis started his second game as a Duck and made 22 saves as Anaheim kept pace in the Western playoff race.
