It’s not often that a game ends with two unhappy coaches. That’s exactly what happened on Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden, as the Tampa Bay Lightning squeaked by the New York Rangers by a score of 2-1.
Lightning Vs. Rangers: John Tortorella, Guy Boucher Both Unhappy After Tampa Win
Lightning coach Guy Boucher called it “the ugliest win of the year” and the “ugliest game of the year.” Really, the whole quote is worth it. Via NHL.com:
“It’s the ugliest win of the year,” Boucher said, before taking it a step further. “It’s the ugliest game of the year. Period. We got shellacked a few times, but even in those games, we could make a pass and do something.”
On the Rangers side of things, John Tortorella was even more furious. And we have video!
It was Bryan McCabe’s first game in Ranger Blue, but despite a hope that he was kick start the power play, the Rangers failed to capitalize. As Tortorella mentioned, the lack of a power play threat was one of the reasons they failed to win on Sunday.
The loss drags the Rangers within five points of the ninth position in the playoff race, but Buffalo, who holds that position currently, has a whopping four games in hand over New York. Things are less than comfortable, to say the least, for the Blueshirts.
Meanwhile, the Lightning are definitely comfortable in the playoff picture, but it appears that their coach isn’t necessarily all that comfortable with their play.
