The Houston Astros are staring a possible last-place season in the face. The projected roster is short on big-time talent, and to make matters worse, one of the team's better players is now sidelined, as starter Wandy Rodriguez has developed a case of shoulder tendinitis.
Wandy Rodriguez Has Shoulder Injury, May Miss Beginning Of Season
According to Zachary Levine, Rodriguez has been scratched from his scheduled Tuesday start, and it remains to be seen whether he's able to make his start after that. Rodriguez has been expected to get the nod in the second game of the year, after Brett Myers, but if this injury knocks him out of action for too long, he may not be available, and could conceivably begin the season on the disabled list.
Rodriguez signed a three-year contract with the Astros just this offseason. The 32-year-old southpaw owns a career 4.18 ERA, and has no history of major shoulder problems. His ERA over the past three seasons is 3.36, making him one of the more underrated arms in the National League.
