On Sunday, Astros starter Wandy Rodriguez was scratched from his upcoming Grapefruit League start due to a case of shoulder tendinitis. Though it was described as mild, nobody ever likes to hear that a top pitcher is experiencing problems with his shoulder, so all eyes were on Wandy to see whether and how quickly he'd improve.
Wandy Rodriguez Over Shoulder Problems, On Track To Start
Turns out the answer is: fast. Rodriguez threw a side session on Friday morning, and everything went off without a hitch. What that means is that he’s now scheduled to make his next start, next Tuesday. Assuming no more problems, Rodriguez should have no issue breaking camp with the team and starting the second game of the season.
The Astros' roster picture doesn't look very promising, but Rodriguez will be a big part of any success they might have, working behind Brett Myers in the rotation. With those two, Bud Norris and J.A. Happ locked in and prospect Jordan Lyles approaching, there's some reason for hope, there.
