If the Los Angeles Kings don't win Game 5 against the San Jose Sharks tonight, their first round exit from the 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs will at least have been a master class in frustration.
Kings Vs. Sharks, Game 5: San Jose Looks To Close Out Los Angeles
Los Angeles dropped Game 1 in overtime on a Joe Pavelski game-winner. A shutout from Kings goalie Jonathan Quick evened the series at 1-1 after Game 2, but then the Sharks won Game 3 in overtime after recovering from a 4-0 deficit, and took Game 4 with a dominant third period.
And so San Jose finds itself on the brink of the Western Conference Semifinals, and Los Angeles is just 60 minutes from the end of its season.
Ryane Clowe may be the key to Game 5. The San Jose second-liner had two goals in each of the Sharks’ last two games, keying offensive outbursts that were just San Jose’s sixth and seventh six-goal efforts in franchise playoff history.
