The Los Angeles Kings took just six shots in the first period, but scored on three of them to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Those three goals were all the Kings needed to put away the San Jose Sharks and stave off elimination with a 3-1 win. With the win, Los Angeles cut its series deficit to 3-2 and forced a Game 6 with the Sharks.
Kings Vs. Sharks Final Score: Los Angeles Uses Strong First Period To Secure 3-1 Win
The Sharks were unable to ever mount a serious comeback despite an onslaught on the Kings’ net. San Jose put a whopping 52 shots on goal while Los Angeles had just 22 shots. But the shot discrepancy meant little as the Kings converted their early chances, putting San Jose in a hole it never recovered from.
Kyle Clifford, Wayne Simmonds and Dustin Penner each had goals for the Kings. Patrick Marleau netted the only goal for San Jose as he found the back of the net in the second period. Jonathan Quick was outstanding in net for the Kings, allowing just one goal in those 52 attempts.
