The San Jose Sharks are still dominating the Los Angeles Kings on the stat-sheet, but trail the Kings on the scoreboard, 3-1. A first period outburst that saw Los Angeles take just six shots and convert three put the Sharks in an early hole, and San Jose has struggle to recover since. In the third period, the Sharks got one back while keeping the Kings from doing further damage, but still have a long road ahead in the final 20 minutes.
Kings Vs. Sharks Score: San Jose Gets One Back, Still Trails After Second Period, 3-1
Patrick Marleau put the Sharks on the board five minutes into the second period with his second goal of the playoffs. Niclas Wallin and Joe Thornton were credited with the assists as the Sharks suddenly sprang to life, cutting the deficit to two. But that was it for San Jose as neither team found the net over the final 15 minutes of the period.
Outside of the goal, it was a relatively quiet period, with little in the way of penalties to go along with the lack of scoring. Kevin Westgarth was sent to the box for hooking, but the Sharks were able to easily kill the penalty and no harm was done.
With 20 minutes to go, the Kings hold a 3-1 lead over the Sharks in Game 5 of the NHL playoff series.
