Casey Blake Returns To Dodgers After Month-Long Absence
Well wouldn’t you know, after exactly four weeks:
Blake is back after a brief minor league rehab assignment that saw him go 2-for-14 with AAA Albuquerque. He is in the Dodgers’ starting lineup on Friday, playing third and batting second.

Doctors cut Blake open and flushed him out, which is exactly as disgusting as it sounds. Blake is expected to have his arm in a sling for the next ten days, after which he’ll slowly ease himself back into baseball activities. By the time he’s back to normal throwing and swinging, approximately a month will have passed from the day of his operation. According to the plan, anyway.

It’s not been a real healthy spring for Blake. He missed much of spring training with “inflammation in his lower thoracic region” before returning to the lineup on April 6. He missed Monday night’s game with groin tightness. Then Tuesday his elbow swelled to the size of a grapefruit before it was drained (ewww). Blake doesn’t know how it happened, but thinks it might be the result of diving for a ball but couldn’t remember a specific play.
