Earlier in the year, Dodgers third baseman Casey Blake got an infection in his elbow and watched it swell to the size of the Great Pumpkin. He had to have it opened up and flushed out, and that procedure was supposed to knock him out for at least four weeks.
Casey Blake Returns To Dodgers After Month-Long Absence
Well wouldn’t you know, after exactly four weeks:
The #Dodgers will welcome Casey Blake back from the DL tonight - LA optioned Russ Mitchell to make room on the roster
Blake is back after a brief minor league rehab assignment that saw him go 2-for-14 with AAA Albuquerque. He is in the Dodgers’ starting lineup on Friday, playing third and batting second.
This is good news for a Dodgers team that's had one of the worst offenses in the National League. Even though Blake is no slugger, he'll bump Aaron Miles from the lineup, thereby providing an upgrade. Blake was sitting on a .956 OPS when he originally went on the DL, and has posted a .788 OPS since 2009.
