Way back at the beginning of the season, Cubs starter Andrew Cashner came out of his first game of the year with what was termed a mild rotator-cuff strain. After being shut down for a brief period, Cashner began a throwing program and seemed to be making solid progress toward a return to Chicago in late May.

The new discomfort is obviously a bad sign for Cashner, even if it’s something minor. We’ll know after the MRI results are released whether Cashner’s looking at a delay of a few days, weeks, or months before he can resume his rehab.
With Randy Wells nearing his return to the rotation, the Cubs are about to get a pitching boost, but the Cashner setback means more Doug Davis or Casey Coleman, which isn't exactly Chicago's Plan A.
