Andrew Cashner Re-Aggravates Shoulder Injury; ‘Back To Square One’

The CubsAndrew Cashner, expected to take a position in the starting rotation this season, made just one start before feeling shoulder stiffness and being placed on the disabled list.

Tentative steps were being taken by Cashner on a rehab program, but the Cubs announced Tuesday that he had re-aggravated the injury while doing this rehab work, and was “back to square one” in the recovery program. Via Carrie Muskat:

Various reports now say that Cashner will not return until after the All-Star break. As noted earlier in this StoryStream, Randy Wells may at least be able to return to the Cubs’ rotation within the next couple of weeks. The Cubs’ postponement on Sunday means that they will not need a fifth starter, after Casey Coleman starts in Florida on Thursday, until May 27 against the Pirates. It’s possible Wells may be ready to return by then.
