New York Mets center fielder Angel Pagan hasn't played since April 21, when he left a game against the Houston Astros with pain in his side. The initial prognosis was day-to-day, which was followed by a trip to the disabled list and further delays once he resumed baseball activities. After playing in some simulated games, though, Pagan is ready to begin a rehab assignment at single-A St. Lucie, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.com.
Angel Pagan Could Be Back On Monday
The plan is to have Pagan play four games at St. Lucie before rejoining the Mets as early as next Monday.
The Mets have received surprisingly robust play from center fielder Jason Pridie, who was recalled after Pagan went on the disabled list. Pridie has hit three homers and five doubles in 65 at-bats while playing a capable center field. But he's no Pagan with the glove -- few are -- so the Mets aren't going to have any problems sliding the incumbent right back into his old spot, even though he was struggling even before the injury.
