The news just gets worse for Rafael Soriano, already on the Disabled List with an elbow injury. Chad Jennings (via LoHud Yankees Blog):
Rafael Soriano’s Recovery Hits Roadblock
Rafael Soriano was throwing off flat ground yesterday and had to shut it down because of soreness in his elbow. He went for another MRI today, but results are not immediately available.
Joe Girardi said he’s more concerned at this point, which should be obvious.
Did the first MRI miss something? Has something happened since the first MRI? Either way, it doesn't sound like Soriano will be rejoining the Yankees' bullpen anytime soon, and this whole thing is beginning to seem suspiciously like a serious elbow injury that just hasn't been diagnosed yet. Soriano's essentially been ineffective or sidelined for nearly two months, which suggests he might need more than a little rest.
Thanks to solid work from Joba Chamberlain, Dave Robertson and veteran Luis Ayala, the Yankees really haven't missed Soriano much. Still, they expected more for their $35 million.
