French Open 2011 Results: Roger Federer Moves On To Quarterfinals

Day 8 of the 2011 French Open is well underway, and one familiar name moved on to the quarterfinals by making quick work of a countryman. Third-seeded Roger Federer defeated fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5, to move on to the second week at Roland Garros.

Federer hit 32 winners and converted five of his six break points against Wawrinka, and made quick work of his fourth round opponent, winning his three sets in one hour and 46 minutes.

Federer has made the quarterfinals at the French Open in each trip to Roland Garros since 2005. But in 2010, he bowed out at the quarterfinal stage, his earliest exit since 2004.

Elsewhere at Roland Garros, Anastasia Pavyluchenkova upset third-seeded Vera Zvonareva, 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-2, and Fabio Fognini moved on to the quarterfinals with a marathon 4-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 victory over Albert Montanes.

You can view the full match results at the official Roland-Garros website. Stay tuned to this StoryStream for updated results.
