Cardinals third baseman David Freese was hit by a pitch that broke his hand, and he underwent surgery that was supposed to knock him out for 9-12 weeks. That was at the beginning of May. We haven't heard much since, but now, four weeks later, it seems like there's only good news to be read. Via Cardinals.com:
David Freese Injury Update: Cardinals Third Baseman Cleared To Resume Swinging
Freese, who underwent surgery on May 3, was cleared to start swinging after meeting with hand specialist Dr. David M. Brown on Tuesday.

“I’m way ahead of schedule,” Freese said Tuesday.
Freese passed a number of medical tests in getting cleared, and while he’s still weeks away from, say, being able to throw, he’s making progress, and he’s making quicker progress than many expected.
If Freese continues to recover well, he could find himself back in the Cardinals lineup by the end of June, which would be a delight for a fan base that's recently been seeing an awful lot of Daniel Descalso. When Freese got hurt, he was sitting on an .865 OPS. Descalso - who started 13 consecutive games at third base before sitting Tuesday night - is down at .641.
