Texas Rangers' reliever-turned-starter Alexi Ogando has been a pleasant surprise this season, posting a 2.17 ERA in six starts. While he's been shutting hitters down, though, he's also been struggling with blister problems throughout the early part of the season. From ESPN Dallas/Fort Worth:
Alexi Ogando Blister Could Force Rangers To Skip His Start
Alexi Ogando may not make his scheduled start on Sunday because of a blister on his right index finger...Ogando, 27, has had issues with the blister all season and it forced him out of his last outing in Seattle earlier than expected. Ogando had thrown 102 pitches in six solid innings against the Mariners and manager Ron Washington planned on running him back out to start the seventh inning.
ESPN also notes that Ogando has a fake nail on the finger to help protect the blister, which is just a little too “Black Swan” for my tastes. It seems like the Rangers are taking a day-to-day approach with the blister, and there is likely no DL time in the immediate future.
The Rangers were off Thursday, so there’s no need yet for another starting pitcher.
