    Esmil Rogers Injury Is Just A Mild Lat Strain

    Well hey, good news! That problem? It’s not much of a problem. Writes Thomas Harding:

    Just a simple lat strain, with no rotator cuff involvement. So while it’s a bummer that Rogers still has a little soreness, it doesn’t look like anyone has to worry about this being a major issue. He should be just fine before too long.

    The exam will tell us whether or not Rogers is in real trouble, but for the time being, his rehab has been shut down, and this is at the very least a small but not insignificant setback. And losing Rogers for an extended period of time would be a blow to the Rockies’ pitching staff.

    Esmil Rogers Lat Injury Lands Rockies Starter On DL

    The plan is for the 25-year-old Rogers to make a couple of rehab starts before the team re-evaluates his position. In the meantime, Clayton Mortensen has been called up to take his place and will start against the Giants Saturday night in San Francisco. The 26-year-old righty came to Colorado in an offseason trade with the A’s, and while the sinkerballer has a career 5.84 ERA in the bigs, he’s had better luck in AAA, and he got some attention during spring training for having the club’s best sinker in camp.

    Mortensen made two appearances for the Rockies earlier this season, throwing eight scoreless relief innings.
