Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Esmil Rogers was placed on the DL over the weekend with soreness in his lat. The organization didn't think it was a big problem and the plan was for Rogers to return fairly quickly, but that's precisely what makes this so worrisome:
Esmil Rogers Injury Still Bothering Him; Pitcher Scheduled For MRI
Just talked to esmil rogers. He felt pain again in lat during long toss. He will have MRI possibly today.
MRI should provide clarity but in meantime this will all but cetainly delay his return. He thinks it might be a rotator cuff issue
The exam will tell us whether or not Rogers is in real trouble, but for the time being, his rehab has been shut down, and this is at the very least a small but not insignificant setback. And losing Rogers for an extended period of time would be a blow to the Rockies’ pitching staff.
Starting in Rogers' place against the Giants, Clayton Mortensen allowed two runs in six innings, with four walks. Due to an off day, the Rockies will skip Mortensen's next start.
