Chris Young Injury May Be A Re-Aggravation Of An Old One

New York Mets starting pitcher Chris Young was a last-minute scratch before a scheduled start on Saturday because he couldn't get himself loose in warm-ups. The team was not very concerned initially, but they sent Young in for an MRI, and the results are not so good:

MRI shows Chris Young may have reaggravated 2009 shoulder injury. Alderson doubts he'll be back when eligible to return from DL.

Where it seemed like Young was fairly healthy and ready to contribute in the immediate or near future, now there are questions about whether or not he’ll take the mound again over the rest of the year. His MRI results are currently being examined more closely so as to gain a better understanding of what’s going on.

If there’s any silver lining here, it’s this: if Young can’t pitch again this season, the Mets will only be on the hook for his $1.1 million base salary, and they won’t get into any of his incentives. The Mets signed Young knowing perfectly well that he was a health risk, and the contract was structured as such.
