Chris Young Injury Is A Bad One: Shoulder Tear May Keep Him Out For Season

In the middle of April, Mets starter Chris Young went on the disabled list with a biceps injury. He just about worked his way back, but immediately prior to a scheduled start on Saturday, Young was scratched with discomfort, and after careful examination of a shoulder MRI, the news is very very bad:

Young has re-tear of the anterior capsule in his shoulder. Same inj. as last year. Not sure if rehab or surgery. Either way, not good.

So much for a quick return from the DL. At this point, it’s an open question as to whether Young returns at all in 2011. Which, unfortunately, shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody, seeing as how he’s thrown all of 120 Major League innings since the beginning of 2009. Young’s struggled with shoulder problems, and the shoulder problems just won’t leave him alone.

On the plus side, I suppose this is good news for Dillon Gee, who's suddenly working with a lot more job security than he probably expected. Not that he's going to go around boasting about it. Gee's made three starts on the year, with a 3.80 ERA over six total appearances.
