Everything has just gone so well this season for the Minnesota Twins, you just had the feeling that at some point it was going to even out. With All-World catcher Joe Mauer about to return from the disabled list and Dernard Span returning from a head injury, the Twins will have to do without first baseman Justin Morneau. From Jon Krawczynski of the Associated Press:
Justin Morneau Injury: Wrist Sends Twins First Baseman To DL
Morneau will have his left wrist immobilized for 10 days, but GM Bill Smith says it’s not likely that an extended stay on DL is needed.Morneau last played on June 9. He was playing with pain in a pinched nerve in his neck, but later he suffered a wrist injury that eventually required an MRI (which came back clean) and a cortisone shot. After a few days, though, the Twins decided they could use a roster spot, and that Morneau’s barking wrist can use a rest.
In the past few games, the Twins have used Michael Cuddyer and Luke Hughes at first. Chris Parmalee is the only first baseman on the 40-man roster who isn't on the active roster, but he's doing just so-so in Double-A, so it would be surprising to see him called up.
