With Justin Morneau now on the disabled list, the Twins are being forced to mix and match to replace him. Manager Ron Gardenhire’s latest idea is to try Trevor Plouffe there, even though Plouffe has not played first base at the major league level:
Justin Morneau Injury: Trevor Plouffe To Replace Morneau At 1B
Plouffe has played only short and second at the major league level, but he saw time at seven different positions while he was at Rochester (first, second, third, shortstop, left field, right field and designated hitter). He has played just seven games at first in his professional career but could be a big help at a position with Justin Morneau on the disabled list.
Plouffe hit .313 with 15 home runs in 51 games at Triple-A Rochester and the Twins hope he can continue to provide this sorely-needed power for him at the major league level.
