This weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to the rolling hills of Michigan for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 at Michigan Speedway. An historic track that produces two- and three-wide racing, Michigan International Raceway is known for its long sweeping corners and green flag racing.
NASCAR In Michigan: Get Ready For One Heluva Good! Weekend
The 2-mile D-shaped oval is typically a proving ground for Roush Fenway Racing, eager to prove itself to Ford Motor Company in nearby Detroit. Leading the points with Carl Edwards, the Ford brigade will be searching their first Michigan victory since Edwards’ win in 2008.
Penske Racing comes into the weekend off of three consecutive pole, one victory and four top 10s int the past three raves. Racing in the shadows of Detroit, Penske teammates Brad Keselowski and Kurt Busch will be looking to put their Dodges in victory lane at the end of the day on Sunday.
Defending race winner Denny Hamlin heads to Michigan looking to make up for the disappointing finish from one week ago at Pocono Raceway. Leading four times for 76 laps, Hamlin finished 19th after a flat tire late in the running ruined his chances at victory.
Much like the past few races, expect Sunday’s 400-mile event to feature long green flag runs and potentially come down to a fuel mileage race at the end. The long sweeping corners allows for multiple racing grooves and provides the drivers with multiple options throughout the weekend.
There have been seven different winners at Michigan International Speedway since 2007, but will this weekend see an eighth different driver pull into victory lane?
