During Saturday's interleague game against the Washington Nationals, Chicago White Sox starter John Danks left the mound due to injury. Later, the injury was revealed to be a strained oblique muscle. Dave van Dyck of the Chicago Tribune tweets:
John Danks Injury: White Sox Lefty Leaves Start With Strained Oblique
The official word: Danks has strained right olbique (side muscle). That probably means DL for a pitcher, but it’s early.
Indeed, a strained muscle to one's side often necessitates a trip to the disabled list. The White Sox are well-prepared for such a contingency, however. Jake Peavy just returned from the disabled list, Philip Humber has suddenly emerged as the most effective starter on the staff, and the rotation is solid from front to back.
Of course, there is no such thing as too much reliable pitching. Let’s hope Danks makes a speedy recovery. Entering Saturday’s game, Danks was the owner of a 4.29 ERA and 1.375 WHIP though 92.1 innings.
