Last weekend, Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins fouled a ball off his right knee. He sat out a couple of games and was seen walking around with a limp, and went for some exams to check for damage. But the Phillies have received nothing but good news: not only were Rollins' X-rays clean, but so was his MRI.
Jimmy Rollins Injury: MRI Reveals No Structural Damage
Amaro said an MRI exam on Jimmy Rollins’ right knee Monday showed no damage. The shortstop was walking with a slight limp in the clubhouse before sitting out his second straight game. Rollins will return to the lineup when the soreness dissipates and the swelling goes down.
Rollins has pain, and a little swelling to go along with it, but nothing else, meaning instead of a DL stint, he's looking at a day-to-day situation that should have him back in the starting lineup rather shortly. Wilson Valdez will hold down the position in the meantime, as he so often has. Since joining the Phillies, Valdez has started double-digit games at second base, third base and short, and given both his versatility and his famously effective appearance on the mound, Valdez may be turning himself into an unlikely Philly fan favorite. If he isn't already.
