Bengals running back Cedric Benson's NFL career has been star-crossed, but after being underwhelming with the Chicago Bears on the field and running into all sorts of off-the-field issues during his time in Chicago, Benson had appeared to get his career and life on track in Cincinnati. And now he's in a Texas jail after allegedly assaulting a family member.
Bengals’ Cedric Benson Arrested For Assault; Fourth Arrest Of NFL Career
That’s according to a report from Austin reporter Ricky Doyle, who notes that this crime would be a Class A misdemeanor in Texas. The incident allegedly happened early Sunday morning.
It’s Benson’s fourth arrest during his NFL career. In 2008, he was arrested for operating a boat while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated in two separate incidents over five weeks. In 2010, he was arrested for assault after allegedly punching a bartender in the face.
Benson was not suspended for the 2010 arrest, but his second 2008 arrest likely precipitated his release from the Bears. Due to the ongoing NFL lockout, it is unclear whether Benson will face further discipline for this arrest.
