You kind of get the sense the Baltimore Ravens have had a post-lockout plan in place for quite a while now. After it was reported that Willis McGahee, Kelly Gregg and Todd Heap will all be shown the door, 37-year-old WR Derrick Mason is the latest soon-to-be ex-Raven, according to the Baltimore Sun's Jamison Hensley.
NFL Free Agency: Derrick Mason The Next Ravens Cut To Hit The Market
That’s another $4.5 million in cap savings for the year, giving Baltimore enough flexibility to do just about anything they want during free agency.
Two-time Pro Bowler Mason has played for the Ravens since 2005. He's been effective even in his mid-30s, posting three-straight 1,000-yard seasons before producing an 802-yard 2010 opposite the team-leading Anquan Boldin. Baltimore does have a crop of under-30 wide receivers in rookies Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss, along with Marcus Smith and David Reed.
With all this turnover already, you have to wonder who’s next on the line for the Ravens.
