Jon Lester and Josh Beckett have been the rocks of the Red Sox rotation so far in 2011, and though Beckett is the one with the ultra-shiny ERA, Lester's been no slouch. It's with that in mind that Sox fans everywhere may commence freaking out, because Lester was removed from a start Tuesday night with an apparent injury.
Jon Lester Departs Red Sox Game With Apparent Injury
Lester was going strong against the Blue Jays, and even began with four no-hit innings, striking out five. But he didn't return to the mound for the fifth, despite having thrown just 50 pitches.
This was Lester after his second-to-last pitch:
You can see him kind of shake and stretch his left arm, but we probably shouldn’t speculate. There’s no word yet on what’s the matter, and we’ll pass an update along as soon as we have one.
Lester was replaced on the mound by reliever Matt Albers. With Tuesday's four shutout innings, Lester's season ERA is down to 3.31, with 110 strikeouts and 40 walks.
