Germany Vs. Brazil, 2011 Friendly: Full Time, Germans Win 3-2

Well, that was fun! Germany and Brazil scored five goals between them and no one got injured on Wednesday night, therefore the game was everything an international friendly is supposed to be. The Germans won by a score of 3-2 in front of a fantastic home crowd in Stuttgart, but the scoreboard doesn't tell the story. Germany were the far superior team for 90 minutes, but Brazil were able to keep it from being embarrassing thanks to a mistake by Phillip Lahm and a great goal by Neymar.

Germany managed to keep Brazil in their own half for the first 10 minutes of the game and completely dominate the first half of play, but was not able to score a goal. They came out with a similar dominance in the second half and in the 60th minute, they finally took the lead. Toni Kroos, who was probably the man of the match, was hauled down by Lucio in the 18 yard box, causing the referee to grant a penalty, which Bastian Schweinsteiger converted.

Seven minutes later, Kroos created a superb goal yet again, this time from open play. On a counter-attack, the Bayern Munich man slotted a brilliant through ball into the box for Mario Götze, who rounded Julio Cesar before placing the ball into the back of the net.

Lahm would give a goal back in the 71st minute when he gave away a penalty, converted by Robinho, but Brazil didn’t stay in the match very long. In the 79th minute, Schweinsteiger stripped the ball from Ralf - who had a terrible match - and laid it back to substitute Andre Schürrle. The youngster who just moved to Bayer Leverkusen from Mainz buried the goal with a fantastic finish, putting Germany ahead 3-1.

Neymar buried an excellent goal from 20 yards out in stoppage time, saving face for Brazil, but there was no mistaking who the better side was on the day. Germany created enough chances to score twice as many times as they did, while Brazil did well to finish the only chances they had. It was a convincing win for Joachim Löw’s men and they should be supremely confident going into their next competitive fixture.
