Logan Mankins finally gets his long-term security and the New England Patriots lock up one of their best players. Mankins' new six-year contract with the Patriots is a win-win for both sides (that is, until we see the numbers). Despite all the brouhaha last year regarding Mankins and the Patriots, they were able to get this done and it benefits both of them.
Logan Mankins’ Contract With Patriots Is A Win-Win
SB Nation’s Pats Pulpit is glad to see one of the top guards in the game be rewarded.
This is great news for both sides. Mankins is a stalwart, a player who makes everyone around him better just by taking the field. He is, without a doubt, a top five guard in the league today. Assuming the six year deal includes the 2011 season, Mankins will now be under the control of the Patriots until 2016, when he will be 34 years old.
I agree, even though we haven’t seen the numbers. The Patriots don’t give out bad contracts very often so I’m assuming it’s a competitive deal that works for both sides.
It’s pretty impressive that the Patriots were able to get this done. Think about last year -- Mankins sat out half the season protesting his contract. Did anyone at that time think he would come back to New England? It speaks volumes about both Mankins and the Pats front office that this got done.
