Brandon Belt Will Replace Andres Torres, Not Carlos Beltran, On Giants Roster

Brandon Belt flew to join the San Francisco Giants in Florida earlier Saturday with the expectations being that he would replace Carlos Beltran on the roster. Turns out Belt will actually be replacing Andres Torres.

Torres was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a contusion to his lower right leg, according to a Tweet from the team, and Belt has been called up to take his place.

According to Baseball Nation’s Jeff Sullivan, this move is ... interesting. Belt “hasn’t been impressive in his limited major league playing time, but he owns a .975 OPS with triple-A Fresno.” Belt would have stood to earn some additional playing time if Beltran was the player moving to the DL, but that might not be the case with his replacing Torres.

This is the fourth time Belt will be with the big club this season. In his previous stints, he’s posted a .218 batting average in 78 plate appearances. Torres has a similarly rough batting average of just .228 in his 328 plate appearances.
