Carlos Beltran Injury: Giants Outfielder Has MRI On Wrist

The San Francisco Giants acquired Carlos Beltran from the New York Mets to try to bolster their sagging offense. On Sunday, Beltran hurt his right wrist on the last swing he took in San Francisco's game against the Phillies and the Giants had an MRI done on the wrist Monday, according to MLB.com:

X-rays taken Sunday came back negative, and Monday's MRI revealed inflammation and slight strains in two areas of Beltran's right hand and wrist. Beltran doesn't have any structural damage, but he is day to day and didn't know whether he would be able to play Tuesday night against the Pirates.

"As soon as I feel like I can swing the bat, I will be out there," Beltran said. "There's injuries that allow you to go out there and be under control, but the wrist -- swinging the bat, that's a huge part of the game, and throwing the ball is a huge part of the game."

Beltran, who is hitting .244 with no home runs in 11 games with the Giants, did not play in Monday’s 5-0 loss to the Pirates; both he and manager Bruce Bochy said the MRI was being done as a “precaution” and that Beltran hopes to be back in the lineup soon.
