Giants’ Osi Umenyiora Cleared For Practice, May Return Monday

New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has been cleared to practice.

Head coach Tom Coughlin said in a conference call Sunday that Umenyiora, who has not practiced with the Giants since training camp started, was cleared by the team's doctors. Coughlin said that the Giants "certainly expect" him to practice Monday, though added that he didn't know if Umenyiora would.

Umenyiora has been at odds with the organization over his contract, and returned to camp following a brief holdout. But he has yet to take part in practice because of a knee injury.

The pass rusher is entering his ninth year in the NFL, though he missed the entire 2008 season because of a torn knee ligament. Umenyiora had 11 1/2 sacks with 10 forced fumbles during the 2010 campaign.
