Osi Umenyiora's agent says that the disgruntled Giants defensive end has a knee injury and will go to Atlanta to see a specialist, according to ESPN New York's Ohm Youngmisuk.
Osi Umenyiora Injury: Giants’ DE Going To Atlanta To See Specialist
The agent reportedly said “I’m hoping this will get him back on the field,” but for a player who’s been unhappy with his contract — which pays him $7.1 million over the next two years — this smells fishy to say the least.
To be fair to Osi, the Giants reportedly set up the appointment in Atlanta for him, and Youngmisuk’s source says it’s a meniscus injury that likely won’t require surgery.
Umenyiora requested to be traded before training camp began, threatening to hold out if necessary, and the G-Men let him explore his options with the caveat that they needed to receive a first-round pick in return. No one bit.
The Giants have since reneged on that agreement, forbidding Umenyiora to seek a trade last week. This could either be an actual injury, or Umenyiora’s response to the Giants’ unwilling to negotiate a new contract or a reasonable trade.
