The Los Angeles Galaxy have reportedly agreed to purchase Robbie Keane's contract from Tottenham for a reported £3 million, but the signing is not yet official. The summer transfer window closed on Sunday at 11:59 p.m., but Galaxy president Tom Payne said on Twitter that an announcement may come on Monday. To make room for Keane on the roster, it now appears the Galaxy have traded Juan Pablo Angel to Chivas USA.
Galaxy Reportedly Purchase Robbie Keane, Juan Pablo Angel Appears Headed To Chivas USA
The major hang up to this deal happening has long Angel’s status. The Galaxy needed to make Keane a Designated Player and with Angel on the roster, there was no room for the Irish international. By convincing Angel to accept what amounts to a switch in locker rooms, there does not seem to be anything standing in the way of Keane joining the Galaxy.
On Sunday, it looked as if Angel was set to join the Philadelphia Union. Goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon tweeted about wanting his fellow Colombian to join him in Philadelphia and Angel was reportedly trying to convince the Galaxy to make the trade happen.
Now, it appears Angel may not have been interested in joining the Union, after all, as the recent reports suggest he was choosing between joining Chivas USA and retiring.
