Jets Vs. Texans: Mark Brunell’s Injury Will Keep Him Out

The New York Jets and Houston Texans will open up their 2011 preseason schedule on Monday Night Football at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. We'll be seeing a number of the players trying to earn a roster spot but we won't see backup QB Mark Brunell doing the same.

Brunell will be out for Monday’s game against the Texans with a finger injury on his throwing hand. As SB Nation’s Gang Green Nation points out, it’s not the worst thing in the world if the longtime veteran misses the game.

That might not be the worst thing in the world. It means more snaps for Greg McElroy and Drew Willy. How much will it help them? It is probably not going to be the biggest deal in the world, but it can at least raise their comfort level a bit having experience working against NFL defenses in an NFL stadium.

Brunell is 40 years old and has been playing since 1994. The Jets know what they have in him, but that’s not the case with McElroy and Willy.

The Jets and Texans will kick off the Monday Night Football schedule at 8:00 p.m. (ET). Check out Gang Green Nation and Battle Red Blog for updates leading up to the game.
