Kobe Bryant has indeed been offered a spot on the Drew League roster for Saturday's summer exhibition in D.C. against the Goodman League, but as of now, it appears unlikely that he will play in the game. Commissioner Dino Smiley poured a bucket of cold water in an interview with Michael Lee of the Washington Post, saying Kobe, as of now, will not be playing in the game.
Kobe Bryant Unlikely To Play In Goodman League Vs. Drew League Exhibition
“Kobe was smiling and saying, ‘Eh, I don’t know if I’m going to be out there,’ ” Smiley said in a telephone interview. “We’re going to see what’s going to happen. [Bryant is] not [coming] right now, but after what happened [Tuesday], I wouldn’t be surprised. I don’t know if he’ll come, but he left us on a good note.”
Smiley is therefore leaving open the possibility of Bryant coming, but later said that the people in D.C. should know that "Kobe ain't going to come with us" at this time. Smiley did confirm that No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams will be on the Drew League roster, replacing Nick Young, who had expressed displeasure over not winning the Drew League MVP and has not returned Smiley's calls.
