The Pittsburgh Steelers opened the fourth quarter of their Thursday night preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles in the same manner they had the first and second -- scoring points. Less then a minute into the final period, Pittsburgh kicker Swayze Waters booted a 30-yard field goal that gave the Super Bowl runner-ups a gaping 24-0 lead.
Eagles Vs. Steelers Final Score: Roethlisberger, Steelers Shred Philadelphia Early On Route To 24-14 Win
The score would remain the same until Eagles third-string quarterback Mike Kafka took charge late in the quarter. The unheralded second-year pro capped off two consecutive scoring drives with touchdown passes to Gerald Jones within the final four minutes, making the final score appear much closer than the game actually was.
Nevertheless, the real story of this preseason exhibition was the struggles of Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles. The self proclaimed "Dream Team" labored throughout the first half, failing to mount any drive of worth while allowing the Steelers to run roughshod through their newly formed defense.
Vick in particular looked out of sync. The 31-year-old finished 5-of-12, with just 47 yards and three horrible interceptions. Newly-signed back-up Vince Young didn't look any better, completing 5-of-8 for 34 yards and one interception.
On the other end of the sideline Ben Roethlisberger came out like a man on a mission, hitting 8-of-12 for 125 yards and two quick touchdowns. Steeler running back Jonathan Dwyer finished with a game high 44 yards on 13 carries.
