The San Diego Chargers offense looks ready to begin the regular season following their 17-7 halftime lead over the Dallas Cowboys. San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers guided the Chargers to a score at the start of the second quarter when he connected with tight end Randy McMichael for a seven-yard touchdown. A Nate Kaeding 25-yard field goal in the first quarter made it a 10-0 lead for the Chargers.

Rivers went 8-of-11 for 92 yards and he had standout wide receiver Vincent Jackson there for him. Jackson grabbed three passes for 49 yards. Running back Ryan Mathews added a 15-yard touchdown run right before the two-minute warning, but a coach's challenge was needed to overturn the official's out-of-bounds call.
The Cowboys' Tony Romo threw a touchdown to Jason Witten in the second quarter, finishing his game with eight completions in 12 attempts for 58 yards. Running back Felix Jones continued his strong preseason, this time averaging eight yards per each of his seven carries.
