Part of the problem of judging teams in the preseason is that so often these exhibition games don't really tell you anything about the team. If you're a Houston Texans fan, you're hoping the preseason is an accurate gauge of how your team will play in 2011.
Texans Beat Saints; Defense Could Push Houston To Next Level
The Texans beat the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, 27-14, and their defense has looked for the second consecutive game. SB Nation's Battle Red Blog details some of the damage done this year relative to the 2010 preseason slate of games.
What do we know about Wade Phillips’ new defense? Last preseason, the Texans had eight sacks and 5 turnovers (+0 turnover ratio) in all four games. The new defense has 11 sacks and 6 turnovers in their first two games. We finally have a pass rush that is generating QB mistakes and sacks. That’s good.
Maybe this preseason is a mirage and the Texans defense isn’t this good. But if they are this good? With that offense, even an average offense would push them over the hump and into the playoffs.
Check out SB Nation’s Battle Red Blog where my opinion on the Texans would be a popular one.
