Bears vs. Giants: Danny Ware Touchdown Run Extends Giants’ Lead To 27-6

Running back Danny Ware’s one-yard touchdown run has given the New York Giants a 27-6 lead over the Chicago Bears at the end of the third quarter. Officials had ruled that Ware fumbled on the previous play, but the Giants challenged the ruling and the call was reversed.

Bears No. 2 quarterback Caleb Hanie has replaced Jay Cutler and has completed 6-of-9 pass attempts for 40 yards. Hanie led the Bears on a 16-play, 62-yard drive that came up empty when running back Marion Barber was stopped short of the end zone on fourth-and-goal at the end of the third quarter.

The second half began on a sour note, with ESPN’s Suzy Kolber reporting that Giants fourth-year cornerback Terrell Thomas suffered a torn ACL to his right knee. Thomas injured the knee when he collided with teammate Jason Pierre-Paul while blitzing Bears quarterback Jay Cutler in the final 30 seconds of the first half. The former second-round pick out of USC was able to walk off the field under his own power, but will miss the entire 2011 season with the injury.

The Giants also announced that x-rays on left tackle Will Beatty’s foot were negative.
