It looks like the Baltimore Ravens are going back to the drawing board to find a fill-in for the injured Matt Birk after recently signed center Casey Rabach reportedly failed a physical. Birk is expected to be out at least a couple of weeks while he recovers from minor knee surgery.
Newly Signed Ravens C Casey Rabach Reportedly Fails Physical
Rabach, who just signed a two-year deal on Tuesday, failed the physical because of a should injury he suffered last season. The surgery was taken care of this off-season, but the Ravens apparently believed he was still two-three weeks away from returning, eliminating the necessity of signing him and forcing the Ravens to look for another replacement.
In the meantime, the Ravens have been forced to use undrafted rookie Ryan Bartholomew as their first-team center. The first-team work has been an unexpected surprise for the Syracuse product.
“It’s interesting,” Bartholomew said with a grin. “It’s nothing new. Football is a game of adversity, and it’s about how you respond to it. You’re just trying to pick up everything, learn from the guys around you, ask questions, and make sure that you don’t go out there and make the same mistakes over and over again. They don’t expect us to be perfect every time, but they do expect us to learn from what we’ve done there.”
