Tampa Bay Rays rookie righthander Alex Cobb had posted very good numbers through his first eight major league starts: a 3-1 W-L record, a 1.20 WHIP, a 2.79 ERA and just two home runs allowed in 48.1 innings.
Alex Cobb Injury: Rays Righthander Has Hand Examined

In start number nine, Saturday night in Tampa, Cobb didn't make it out of the fifth inning and it wound up being the worst outing of his young career. He allowed seven hits, walked four and gave up a home run to the Athletics' David DeJesus. The Rays wound up losing the game 8-0.
It got worse for Cobb and the Rays after the game. Tampa Bay Online reports that Cobb wound up in a local hospital having his right hand examined:
Alex Cobb ended up at nearby St. Anthony’s Hospital after Saturday’s 8-0 loss to the A’s after complaining of discomfort in his right hand.
The Rays didn’t provide further details other than Cobb was being examined by team orthopedic surgeon Koco Eaton.
“I have no idea,” manager Joe Maddon said when asked if he could shed more light on the topic. “He did not complain of anything during the course of the game. I was advised of the problem during the game.“The A’s stole five bases while Cobb was in the game; that’s only one fewer than he had given up combined in his eight starts prior to Saturday night. The Rays hope to have further information available on Cobb’s condition on Sunday.
