NFL Combine 2012: Andrew Luck Could Still Throw

The 2012 NFL Scouting Combine is under way in Indianapolis, with the first group of players arriving and beginning the process on Wednesday. The quarterback groups are not arriving until Thursday and not having their on-field workouts and drills until Sunday, but the early news was that the top two quarterbacks in this year's NFL Draft, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, were not planning on throwing at the Combine, electing to save that aspect of their game for their individual pro day workouts in March.

Joe Schad of ESPN reports that Luck has been training with George Whitfield, who trained last year’s No. 1 overall pick, Cam Newton. He plans on working with the Stanford quarterback at least through Luck’s pro day in Palo Alto on March 22.

“There are things he wants to work on, but this is refinement not an installation or a surgery,” Whitfield said. “It’s about getting reps and he’s really a marvel to watch. Very sound. Very consistent. Physically impressive. A power guy. A strong guy which people underestimate. One thing we’ve been doing is working the throws out on the perimeter -- those throws outside the hash marks.”

Whether Luck will throw at the combine is uncertain, but Whitfield said Luck is prepared to throw in Indianapolis and would perform well if he did throw.

It appears that, unlike Heisman winner Griffin, Luck is not ruling out throwing at the Combine. We will have to wait and see.
