Entering the 2012 NFL offseason, the Oakland Raiders have found themselves in a bit of a bind in regards to the salary cap. Oakland has already been forced to release cornerback Stanford Routt to cut some cost, but now they may need to release one of their pass rushers in linebacker/defensive end Kamerion Wimbley if he doesn't agree to restructure his contract and take a pay cut, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network.

The Raiders recently released corner Stanford Routt recently to avoid a $5 million roster bonus, however, they then also had to give him $5 million in guarantees they still owed. If the Raiders can’t find common ground with Wimbley on a new deal then they face a similar situation with the linebacker.
Free agency starts in just 13 days and the Oakland Raiders are still $20 million over the projected salary cap. Releasing Wimbley would save the Raiders some cap savings, but they would also be releasing the player who was second on their team in sacks in 2011 and has picked up 16 sacks over the past two seasons. The Raiders originally acquired Wimbley in a trade with the Cleveland Browns prior to the 2010 season, signing Wimbley to a five-year $48 million contract after the 2011 season.
