Broncos vs. Bengals 2012: Bengals comeback falls short

Cincinnati came back to lead in the 4th quarter, but couldn’t hold off Peyton Manning.

The Cincinnati Bengals were in an excellent position to gain ground in the AFC North race, but instead found themselves falling another game behind both Pittsburgh and Baltimore after Peyton Manning led the Denver Broncos on another 4th quarter comeback.

Manning threw two touchdown passes to complete the 37th fourth-quarter comeback victory of his career, establishing a new record in the process. SB Nation’s Cincy Jungle could not help but feel like one got away, especially after the Bengals had taken advantage of a pair of interceptions in the third quarter:

Thanks to Peyton Manning's two interceptions -- the first in the endzone, the second that led to BenJarvus Green-Ellis' touchdown -- the Bengals took a 20-17 lead into the fourth quarter. As if feeling the suffocating mask of actually having something in their favor, the Bengals absolutely collapsed; not unlike playing a scripted broadway show with eight games remaining.

The Bengals have now lost four games in a row, despite Jermain Gresham catching six passes for 108 yards and A.J. Green catching seven passes for 99 yards and a score. BenJarvus Green-Ellis also added a touchdown on the ground, which gave Cincinnati a three point lead early in the fourth quarter.

Cincinnati now sits at 3-5 on the season and is well off the playoff pace after making the postseason last year.
